As one of two USMC pilots in the Overhaul and Repair Facility, located at MCAS Cherry Point, NC, he routinely flew up to 20+ aircraft types (jets, props and transport). On three occasions, he flew test flights in six different types.in a single day.
As a test pilot at the Naval Test Center, Patuxent River, MD, Jim was in the Flying Qualities and Performance Division where he participated in tests of several aircraft of the mid-60s, including the RA-5C (project pilot), F-8D/E/ FN, F-4A/B/C, A-6A, EA-6A, OV-10 and Convair Charger prototypes, spin test of AD-6 and TA-4C and other tests as assigned. He became a Member in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots in 1965.
Jim was a USMC reserve and left at the end of his service commitment to Join LTV Aerospace (as an experimental test pilots in May 1966. He retired in December !992 as the Chief Test Pilot. Jim flew and tests and
